As members of the the Utah community, we are committed to driving sustainable business practices by investing in initiatives that make our Earth a better place. We recognize the importance of the environmental and social issues facing our planet and its inhabitants. We likewise recognize the importance of being responsible stewards and, as such, have identified key areas in which to focus our efforts. Our objectives are to build a network of Utah organizations committed to promoting solution-based change, use our unique influence to drive progress and actively work to develop a culture focused on sustainable living for generations to come.

    • By 2020, we commit to improving the environmental impact of our Top 20 products

Adobe
  • We are committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by... 

  1. Committing to science based targets to meet the 1.5 degrees Celsius climate change guidance from the UN.

  2. Power 8%-10% of our Lehi Campus using renewable energy generated from on site solar panels.

  3. Purchased green tariffs for true renewable energy from our energy provider to run our site purely on renewable energy

  4. Compost all food waste from our Lehi Campus. 

Salt Lake Green Team Committee  (Salt Palace Convention Center, Mountain America Exposition Center, Visit Salt Lake, Centerplate, PSAV)
  • By 2030, we aim to accomplish the following for our two venues:

    1. Climate Action & Air Quality: Eliminate our scope 1 carbon emissions through renewable energy, sustainable transportation, zero waste, and carbon offset programming. 

                  a.) 2021 Spark Goal: Begin true carbon emission tracking for operations taking place at the Salt Palace and Mountain America Expo, then set our reduction targets accordingly (including the examination of scope 2/3 emissions as well).

    2. Zero Waste: We hope to operate at a 90%+ landfill diversion year in and year out. This would also mean that trade shows would largely need to strive for and achieve 90% landfill diversion. This is accomplished via community partnership through recycling and reuse of leftover trade show materials.

                  a.) 2021 Spark Goal: 70% diversion for Salt Palace / 40% diversion for Mountain America Expo

    3. Energy & Water Conservation: While we have reduced our footprints for energy (by 38%) and water (by 25%) since 2008, we continue striving for efficiency everywhere possible

    4. Partnership: 

                    a.)Events Industry Council Sustainable Event Standards (EIC SES): As an ongoing goal, we are committed to inspiring others to adopt these certifications (click for more info on EIC SES). 
                               ■    2021 Spark Goals: Pursue more supplier certifications such as hotels and general service contractors (Salt Lake leads the industry with four EIC certifications as of 2020). Launch our Sustainable Event Certification Program, certifying at least one event to the EIC SES Event Organiser certification. 
                    b.)Education & Awareness: Maintain a partnered approach to offering businesses and the hospitality community best practices, tools, and support in building sustainable economic models (including support of Salt Lake County and Salt Lake City government). 
                    c.) Equality: We are committed to taking these actions through an inclusive approach, empowering diverse voices and perspectives to achieving equitable climate action. Community partnerships will be built to do this. 

USANA Health Sciences

  1. Educating our employees regarding proper recycling and waste management

  2. Decreasing our plastic usage in 2020 by:

    • Beginning the process to move to smaller sized bottles to reduce wasted space

    • Making the switch from plastic bottles to 25% post-recycled material bottles 

    • Shift from plastic bags to reusable tote bags that will be given to all Utah employees and available for customers to purchase

Larry H. Miller Group of Companies
  1. We are committed to aligning our business practices with the three pillars of business sustainability - environmental, social, and economic - by preparing within the first quarter of 2021, our first company-wide sustainability report, in which we will articulate our sustainability vision, identify our current sustainability practices, and set measurable, time-sensitive goals for business sustainability improvement.

  1. Educating 100% of our employees regarding proper recycling

  2. Decreasing our waste annually until we meet our goal of a 50% reduction.

  • We’re committed to environmentally sustainable business practices by driving the following changes by September 2021:

    1. Implement a remote-friendly work policy and decrease the share of workdays where employees commute to the office by 20%.

    2.  Enhance on-site recycling access with bins and signage in each area of the office.

    3.  Educate our employees on sustainability topics including recycling, transportation, and climate change.

LUX Catering & Events
  • LUX is committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by continuing to be a resource for zero-waste events. We will also continue to maintain and build our comprehensive recycling program which diverts nearly 90% of our waste from landfills. Additionally, we will continue educating our team on paperless procedures and are working toward being a paperless company by the end of 2021

American Red Cross, Central & Southern Utah Chapter
  • We are committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by... 

  1. Reducing the potential harm to people and neighboring wildlife habitats from home fires (sometimes becoming wildfires) by installing smoke alarms in at-risk segments of communities at no cost to residents.

  2. Educating families in their homes and children in their schools on the home fire safety, reducing the potential for harm to local environments from life-threatening fire.

  3. Providing localized office accommodation for resident Utah County employees and volunteers to have reduced commuting obligations while still having regular telecommuting opportunities.

  4. Encouraging carpooling among all employees and volunteers for official travel when possible, even if sometimes at the expense of convenience.

UCAIR - Utah Clean Air Partnership
  • We are committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by

    1. Providing 2,000 EPA Certified Gas Cans for the public.  This will reduce VOC and NOX.

Provo City
  • We are committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by...

    1. ​Sourcing 50% of the city's electricity from non-carbon sources by 2030

    2. Planting 1,000 trees over the next two years

    3. Continuing to encourage employees to walk, bike, and take transit to work by offering UTA passes to employees

Utah Food Services
  • We pledge to educate 100% of our employees on our sustainability procedures including procurement, processes, and sustainable disposal of material (food waste and all recyclables).  We pledge to track and decrease our waste at our North Salt Lake headquarters and will take our Events Industry Council Sustainability Events Standard Certification, currently certified on the Gold level for food & beverage, to Platinum Level (the highest level achievable) by 2021.

Nature's Seed
  • We are committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by redesigning our packaging to use recycled paper to decrease our waste in 2020 by 95%. We will also be working with multiple organizations throughout the state of Utah to reclaim and restore lands damaged by mining, drilling, wildfires, and other erosion events.

Ace Recycling and Disposal
  • We are committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by transitioning our fleet to 85% alternative fuel powered vehicles by 2024. 

Thanksgiving Point
  • We pledge to develop, advocate for, and educate about responsible practices to help Thanksgiving Point Institute reduce its impact on the environment. We will:

    1. Add recycling awareness to the on-boarding process for 100% of new team members and better educating all current staff starting March 21, 2020

    2. Assess, inventory, and order appropriate containers to make recycling easy to understand and accessible to all team members by July 1, 2020

    3. Reduce recycling contamination to less than 20% through on-going education and surprise audits by December 2020

    4. Reduce usage of printer paper in offices by 15% by March 2021  

97th Floor
  • 97th Floor is committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by...

    1. Improving air quality by offering each employee $75 a month to use on alternative transportation

    2. Offering remote working options for employees so they don't have to drive in to the office if they don't want to. 

Utah's Hogle Zoo
  • Utah's Hogle Zoo is committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by diverting 80% of our waste from landfill by 2025.

Summit Realty Professionals LLC
  • We are committed to driving environmentally sustainable business practices by...

    1. We will encourage all of our clients to take full advantage of our GreenDoor Program; which can help make their homes more energy-efficient and save on utility bills.

    2. Increase efficiency and reduce unnecessary travel by becoming a cloud-based real estate brokerage and using a 100% paperless filing system.

    3. Reduce emissions by purchasing the first of many electric vehicles for our agents to use while showing homes.

    3. Reducing water use by 2/3 by creating eco-friendly and water-wise landscaping techniques.

    4. Planting 30,000 trees throughout Utah to improve public green space, reduce our carbon footprint and improve our air quality.

We are engaged in our communities, live healthy outdoor lifestyles, and strive for a healthy life-work balance and believe business should be used as a force for good.  We have committed the following environmental business practices within our community by:

    • We have been a Certified B Corporation

    • We have offset our fossil-fuel grid electricity by 100% with a Solar PV rooftop system at all three of our offices

    • We have an intricate recycling process that requires our install crews to bring back all materials from a job site and put them in their appropriate bins.

    • We installed hand dryers to reduce our paper waste.

    • We a ground source heat pump for heating and cooling and a solar hot water system.

    • We have installed some low-flow toilets and are committed to replacing the rest.

    • We have several electric vehicles in our fleet.

    • We have committed to using the new Tier 3 gas now available in the Salt Lake Valley, reducing vehicle emissions up to 80%.

    • We have several staff members that bicycle to work.

    • We have planted low-water plants and trees in our limited garden space.

    • We are always keeping an eye and ear out to new technologies that help our sustainability goals.
